About
20 years behind the mic. Quick-witted on stage, meticulous backstage.
I’m James Yang, a full-time bilingual (English and Mandarin) master of ceremonies based in Singapore, trusted across 2,000+ live events in 13 countries by 800+ global brands, government ministries, and couples.

James Yang is a full-time emcee based in Singapore, with 20 years on stage and more than 2,000 events across 13 countries for over 800 companies, government ministries and couples. Great hosting sits at the intersection of two skills that rarely come in the same person: the discipline to run a complex production timeline to the minute, and the quick-witted, spontaneous humour to make a ballroom of 700 strangers laugh like old friends. Over the past 20 years, I have anchored more than 2,000 rooms across Singapore, Asia-Pacific, Europe, and North America, bringing warmth, intelligent banter, and calm authority to every stage I step onto.
The Rooms and Stages I anchor
In any given week, the room in front of me changes completely. One night is a black-tie regional gala or an industry summit for banking, pharmaceutical, legal, and technology leaders, including clients such as Citi, Pfizer, Manulife, Sony, Marriott International, and L’Oréal. The next is a high-energy 1,000-staff corporate Dinner & Dance or a luxury wedding banquet where English-speaking friends and Mandarin- or dialect-speaking elders share the same tables. Instead of reading stiff word-for-word translations, I switch languages live mid-flow so the entire room reacts together.
My work also extends to high-security diplomatic and national ceremonies, including hosting the 8th Singapore Silent Heroes Awards at the Shangri-La Hotel (with Guest of Honour Mr Lawrence Wong, now Prime Minister of Singapore), official functions for international Defence Ministers at the Shangri-La Dialogue, the SAS 50th Anniversary Gala at the Asian Actuarial Conference, the NUHS Superstar Nurses Awards, and the 500-guest Singapore Red Cross 70th Anniversary Benefit Gala.
Why clients and agencies rebook me year after year
First, the groundwork before event day. We meet ahead of time so I can understand your audience psychology, advise on segment placement and crowd games, verify every VIP title and name pronunciation, and align the cue-to-cue run sheet with your planner or hotel banquet manager. Because the structure is locked in early, I never have to bury my head in cue cards, leaving me free to read the crowd, improvise on the spot, and deliver natural, unscripted humour that fits the room.
Second, what happens when the unexpected hits. Live events rarely go 100% to script, a VIP convoy runs late, an AV video glitches, or the kitchen needs ten extra minutes before dessert. I arrive early to sync with your sound, lighting, and floor crew, and when a last-minute hiccup happens, I smooth it over with fast crowd banter so your guests never realise anything went off-plan.
