James Yang hosts company dinner and dance nights in Singapore, and has run D&D programmes, games and lucky draws in English and Mandarin for 20 years. A company Dinner & Dance is one of the toughest rooms to host well, because your audience is made up of colleagues who see each other every day, they are there to unwind, not sit through stiff speeches or forced, cringeworthy stage games. Across 20 years and thousands of corporate D&Ds in Singapore, including the Omron Dinner and Dance, the SSIA Annual Dinner, and year-end parties for 800+ global and local brands, I use spontaneous humour and natural crowd work to turn a polite ballroom into a genuine celebration.

Why a great D&D takes more than a loud microphone

At a formal gala, the audience sits politely. At a Dinner & Dance, you often have C-suite directors, regional expats, long-serving Mandarin-speaking operations teams, and brand-new hires all sharing the same ballroom, and the night only succeeds if every single table feels part of the action.

That requires reading the room in real time. The stage and table games need to be hilarious and HR-friendly, designed so quieter departments can win without ever being embarrassed on stage. The lucky draw needs sharp comic pacing so 50 prize handovers never feel like a roll call. And right after management’s speech or long-service awards, I know how to lift the energy straight back to the ceiling.

How I drive the momentum across the night

The games

Tailored to your company culture, theme, and ballroom size, from whole-room table challenges to high-energy stage showdowns. Rules are explained in one crisp pass, nobody is forced into awkward stunts, and the comedy comes naturally from spontaneous banter.

Lucky draw and prize segments

Paced like a live game show. I build suspense for the top table prizes, keep winner walk-ups and VIP photo-ops moving briskly, and improvise with the crowd so the energy never stalls.

The management segment

VIP walk-ins, executive toasts, and long-service awards are given the polish and respect they deserve, followed by an effortless shift back into party mode the moment the formalities conclude.

The handover to the dance floor

Synced tightly with the live band, DJ, or AV crew so the transition from the grand lucky draw into the final party set hits at peak excitement, with zero dead air in between.

From 50 pax year-end parties to 3000+ guest ballroom extravaganzas

Trusted by organising committees across technology, manufacturing, banking, healthcare, logistics and themed year-end celebrations for multinational and local enterprises across Singapore’s major hotel ballrooms, resorts, and live music venues, hosted seamlessly in English, Mandarin, and local dialects.

Questions

Who should I hire to emcee my company dinner and dance in Singapore?
Look for an experienced D&D emcee who can read a diverse corporate crowd, deliver clean, quick-witted humour without resorting to awkward or embarrassing stunts, and switch effortlessly between English and Mandarin. Across 20 years of hosting Singapore D&Ds, committees book me because I help design the game flow ahead of time, keep lucky draws moving fast, and take the pressure off the HR and organising team on the night.
Do you run the games yourself?
Yes, from conceptualising and recommending games during our pre-event planning call to running them live on stage and across the ballroom floor. Before the event, we match the games to your crowd profile, theme, and stage setup so your committee does not have to worry about awkward silences or confusing rules.
Can you keep to time when dinner runs late?
Absolutely. Banquet service delays and overrun speeches happen at almost every large D&D. When the timeline shifts, I coordinate directly with your event planner, AV crew, and hotel banquet manager to compress or reorder game and lucky draw segments on the fly, using spontaneous crowd banter to cover any gaps so your event still wraps up on schedule.
Do you host in English and Mandarin at a D&D?
Yes. Many companies in Singapore have a mix of international executives, English-speaking office teams, and Mandarin or dialect-speaking operations and production staff. I switch languages naturally mid-sentence so every department laughs at the same time and nobody feels left out of the games or lucky draw.

Tell me the date and what the night is.

I reply personally, usually the same day.
